It provides more background, and with all the opinions of the people that try to help Odysseus' son locate him, one gets a really good view of how respected and known he is. Also, with the beginning about his home life while he is gone, you can really try to relate to his feelings of wanting to get back to that so badly.<br \/>\n<br \/>\nHowever, concerning his determination with all of these events that most people would give up on, I tend to think that it wasn't all because of himself.
