I never though of Nausikaa as "positively artful" but I definitely see what you're saying. Just the fact that Homer makes women so important to the plot says something. The way these women act sort of defines Odysseus' path and his future. Even if they're evil, it's definitely "forward thinking" in how Homer portrays them.
\nAlso, I'm a little wary of the 11 book finish, too.
