How are formal elements and principles of design used to express the subject matter and organize the composition? Address any elements that seem important: line, perspective, shape, space, light and dark, color, etc. Is the work balanced? Does it seem unified? Is there significant use of rhythm and repetition? How does the work create emphasis? You do not need to provide an exhaustive analysis. Stick to what you think is most important.

Context

Is there a larger philosophical, historical, or social context that informs the work? Are there symbolic or personal meanings in the work? Answering questions will require research. You may not be able to find specific information on the work or the artist, but you can research the relevant art history.You can start here.
