In my opinion, Honors 201 has gone excellently thus far. I greatly enjoy the laid-back, conversational atmosphere of the class, which really helps me to feel comfortable in sharing any input I may have. In regards to my personal participation and effort in the class, I feel that I have done very well. I am by no means one of the top contributors to class discussions, but I always contribute to the conversation whenever I feel that I have something meaningful to say.
I believe that I have learned a great deal in the class so far. The beginning of the year was a bit of review for me, as I had studied a lot of ancient Greek literature last semester in my Classical Literature class at Fishers High School. However, different approaches were taken to the texts that definitely helped me to get a lot more out of them. I love the conversation-based learning that we do during class. Having students contribute in order to come to a conclusion has been extremely helpful for me.
I really do not dislike anything in the course. If there was one thing that I had to change, it would be the amount of reading assigned per night. However, this is an honors course and this sort of workload should be expected. All in all, I feel that everything is just as it should be and that no changes are necessary!
There have been many great moments during the class, but my personal favorite was when everybody shared their parodies. I thought they were all very clever and allowed for a little bit of fun with very serious, somber texts. I especially enjoyed the parody of The Odyssey where Odysseus was portrayed as an architecture student at Ball State. It was hilarious and incredibly well thought out. I am very excited for the rest of the semester!
