A Visit to the Museum

Journal for 11/18

Use the following questions to generate ideas for your response. You don't need to answer every question.

  1. What does the exterior of the art museum "say" to the visitor?
  2. How does the entrance and sculpture court welcome the visitor? What is the message?
  3. What seems to be the guiding principle (there may be more than one) when displaying objects in each gallery?
  4. How does lighting and wall color affect the way the art is displayed in certain rooms? Why?
  5. What are the highlights of the museum collection, and why do you think so?
  6. Master plan: Can you detect a pattern to the way the art is organized throughout the entire museum? What is it? How does the architecture and the arrangement of the galleries guide the visitor from room to room?
